The Crit

For my art crit I decided to display two drawings, two jelly prints I made with flowers I had and some experiments of work I was testing ideas out with resin and colour.

Majority of people who came to the crit actually liked my work and gave me some ideas that I never thought about trying. These ideas were making them as buttons for clothing, to create jewellery and just pretty things to look at.

I liked the sound of the jewellery making it would be something I would be willing to try, also got suggestions to try use glass, jelly, ice instead of resin to experiment with since it is expensive to purchase. Which again was something I wouldn't mind experimenting around with, especially ice since I could record it melting and watch it change with time.

I do believe the art crit went better than expected and I'm quite happy with the outcome and suggestions I was given.

Kate Kneen

At one of the art crits, Kate's work is something I found very interesting due to the unusual appearance of the work and that we have similarities in project themes and ideas, Kate has decided to develop her interest in nature, natural forms and the relationship between animals and humans. There's a range of mixed media, drawings to printmaking and collage. I really like the work she had presented, it's beautiful to look at and each image has their own story to tell.

The bear and the shark with the doily's around their necks are my favourite among her works. This is because it draws you to their faces more which reflects the personalities they have been made to have in their facial expressions. To me the shark looks scared and sad that it is perhaps trapped in the doily due to littering and neglect humans have done to sea life. However the bear with the doily on it's neck looks cute instead of a scary predator we see them to be. I like the fact these two animals are both predators and when placing a doily on them its softens their appearance and the nature of the animal.
