Saatchi Gallery-From Selfie to Self Expression

Saatchi Gallery and Huawei have teamed up to present From Selfie to Self-Expression. This is the world's first exhibition exploring the history of the selfie from the old masters to the present day,and celebrates the truly creative potential of a form of expression often derided for it's inanity.

The show also highlights the emerging role of the mobile phone as an artistic medium for self-expression by commissioning ten exciting young British photographers to create new works using Huawei's newest breakthrough dual lens smartphones co-engineered with Lecia.

Daniel Rozin- Pom Pom Mirror

Artist Daniel Rozin has designed an interactive "mirror" from faux-fur bunches that change colour to create moving silhouettes. Rozin's pom pom mirror is formed from 928 spherical beige and black tufts, arranged onto an octagonal grid that mounts onto a wall. Acting like pixels, the pom poms work in pairs that are controlled by motors-pushing and pulling them backward and forward so only one of each couple is displayed at a time.

The motors are activated in response to movements captured and translated by a Microsoft Kinect sensor located on top of the piece, which routes the data through a computer. When a person or object moves into view, the beige tufts are swapped with the black ones to mimic the shapes and turn them into an image.

Leeds Art Gallery- 6/12/17

Leeds Art Gallery has the largest single collection of Cotman's sketchbook drawings with over eight hundred that Kitson managed to buy during the 1920s. He mounted each one separately, on individual sheets of watercolour paper, before preserving them in  specially made boxes.  On his death in 1937 Kitson left his entire collection of sketches by Cotman to Leeds Art Gallery.

Fraga has animated two of Cotman's many sketches to harness and bring to life the freshness of the originals, and create a link between past and present.

Lothar Gotz - Xanadu

Lothar Gotz is known for his large-scale wall paintings and architectural displays characterised by vivid colours and abstract, geometric forms. Gotz creates his murals by "breathing in" the space, its architecture, proportions and inconsistencies, and then translating these features into his own visual language. In doing so, he ensures that his murals become integral to the psychology of the architecture. Gotz has been able to unify his passion for theatre, architecture and choreography through this art.
