In this work the ideal of union with the natural world conflicts with our contemporary impact on the environment. These pieces are in part responses to environmental stressors such as climate change, toxic pollution, and gm crops. They also borrow from myth, art history, figures of speech and other cultural touchstones. In some pieces aspects of the human figure stand in for ourselves and act out sometimes harrowing, transformations which illustrate our current relationship with the natural world.

Kate Macdowell's work has inspired me to have a different appearance on the look of the hand sculptures I make in my project. The theme of the natural world, preservation and making a statement about the importance of the relationship we currently have with nature is really important and needs to be recognised. Which is why Macdowell's sculpture pieces always give me new ideas and make me look at things from a different point of view of the natural world situation.
