Artist 2- Makoto Azuma
Makoto Azuma is a Japanese flower artist, botanical sculptor, installation and performance. For Azuma, plants are the ideal medium not only to explore the transitory nature of beauty and decay, but also to create dramatic and surreal scenarios in nature. His lush, exotic arrangements have been suspended in air, frozen in ice, set on fire, and launched into space.
These sculptures of the Iced Flowers, the assortments of plants display unique expressions that are not visible in everyday activity, but are when placed under different environments such as this extreme case. the clear, almost crystal-like prisons make a vivid contrast with the beautiful, suspended objects inside.
Azuma's work is breathtaking, ice is another material I have now considered using within my project and to record the ice block melting over time as part of the sculpture process and piece.
